NORTH SHORE | OAHU – THE GLORIES OF SHRIMP, SHAVED ICE, AND DINOSAURS

North Shore | Oahu - Things to Do
Oahu’s North Shore is exactly what it is supposed to be: paradise. We drove up from Honolulu and stopped at any small beach town or scenic lookout that called our name. And there were many. It’s really not fair that people actually get to live here. I mean, just look at this place.

If you should know anything about me it’s this: I love shrimp. Smother it in a pound of garlicky butter and it rockets to number one on my list of Last Meals. I could eat shrimp truck shrimp for every single meal of the day and be the happiest camper. While there is stiff competition between North Shore Shrimp Trucks, we pulled into Macky’s because it was bright, close, and not too crowded. I practically wept with joy throughout my meal.

We made our way over to Haleiwa, a charming surf town, and indulged in some creamy shaved ice at Aoki’s. My new rule of thumb, thanks to Aoki’s, is to never eat shave ice unless it’s as big as my head. Also, red beans are always a good idea.

You already know about my love of all tourist traps (what’s up, Paradise Cove Luau) so of course we made a beeline to Kualoa Ranch, a massive and gorgeous ranch that sprawls across the island.

It is known for all sorts of tours, but I was there for one reason and one reason only.
North Shore | Oahu - Kualoa Ranch - Jurassic Park
I may have worn out my Jurassic Park VHS tape because I was so obsessed with the freakishly awesome dinosaurs and adventure-packed-yet-tender story line. Have you seen Jurassic Park lately? It totally stands the test of time. I was near giddy with excitement when we pulled up to the log the characters hid behind during the dino stampede. Oh, and there was stuff from Lost there, too. Warren was happy to fake-golf on Hurley’s golf course.

And let’s not forget Godzilla’s footprints that ran rampant over the ranch.

Or the Easter Island head.

But mostly, let’s just revel in the glory that is the North Show, smudges of rainbows and all.

Beautiful! ๐Ÿ™‚ I love shrimp too… yum yum! Especially coconut shrimp, that's my favorite! (I feel like we're in a scene of Forest Gump, now!)

And I totally would have geeked out over the Hollywood-scenes tour! I haven't watched Jurassic Park in forever, but this post is making me want to! And LOST!!!! Yay!

The seafood was ridiculous! We went to a fancy Chinese restaurant and they served us a platter of crabs that was larger than a toddler. Needless to say, I was in complete heaven ๐Ÿ™‚

It seems like you had the island to yourself! Lucky girl. I'm also a sucker for delicious hawaiian food, and what's more hawaiian than seafood and shaved ice? Looks like it was an amazing trip.

I'm sure I've never seen anyone so happy while eating shrimp. My film buff hubby is going to be interested in hearing about the film locations on the north shore. Although we've been to Hawaii several times, never made it up that way.

I could eat shrimp every which way you throw at me. I'm super envious about the jurassic park thing, and I want my picture taken in a giant footprint!!

You're never too old to revel in giant footprints, am I right? I need to learn how to cook shrimp so I can feast on it all the time. Though my obsession with it would probably grow to become out of control ๐Ÿ™‚
