APPLE PIE WAFFLES | A THANKSGIVING BLOG HOP

Waffled Apple Pie | Flaky pie crust stuffed with apple pie!
Imagine your favorite slice of apple pie in waffle form and you will understand the pure beauty that is the Apple Pie Waffle. See how that cream cheese pie crust puffs up to its highest point? See that perfectly crispy, buttery surface indented in the way only waffles can indent in order to catch pools of delicious glaze and melty ice cream?

That, my friends, is what happens when you put pie crust in a waffle maker, stuff it with apple pie filling, and count your many blessings because you live in a world where this combination of items exists.

I suppose, if we are to be 100% accurate, we ought to call this creation Waffled Apple Pie.
But let’s not quibble over semantics here.
All you really need to know is that Apple Pie Waffles or Waffled Apple Pie is seriously good.

And all that goodness is made even better with a generous drizzle of glaze.

And let’s not forget that scoop of ice cream. Because either way, Apple Pie Waffles or Waffled Apple Pie demand to be served a la mode.

To make these waffled pockets of awesome, you basically are creating a stuffed pie and cooking it to its fullest potential in a waffle iron.
How Waffle Apple Pie
Only good things can come of such a thing. Like, for instance, it takes mere minutes to have a piping hot waffled pie in front of you. No longer must you wait an hour for your apple pie to bake! Not that there is anything wrong with a classic apple pie. Not at all.
But waffled pie? Mind blowing!

Finally, I am so delighted to contribute these waffles to a very special Thanksgiving blog hop hosted by Samantha from Five Heart Home and Ashley from Cherished Bliss! Because why have one when you can have two? P.S. The same logic also completely applies to these waffled pies.

Apple Pie Waffles (or Waffled Apple Pie)

For the Waffles
one batch Flaky Cream Cheese Crust, or store bought pie dough if you want to save time
two cups diced apples
zest and juice of a lemon
1/4 cup sugar
pinch of salt
glaze (recipe below)
vanilla ice cream
Prepare the pie dough and refrigerate until you are ready to assemble the waffles. Make the apple filling by combining the diced apples, lemon zest, lemon juice, sugar, and salt in a medium bowl. Mix to combine.
Divide pie dough into 8-10 equal pieces and roll into balls. Flatten each piece into a circle. To assemble one waffle, top a circle with a tablespoon or two of apple filling. Place a second circle on top of the filling and pinch around the circles to seal them together. Repeat with the remaining circles.
Heat waffle iron (we used a Belgian waffle iron) and spray with non stick spray. Cook waffles for 3 minutes, or until the top is golden brown. Carefully remove the hot waffled pie and cool for a minute or two. Drizzle with glaze and serve with a scoop of ice cream.
For the Glaze
2 cups sifted powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1-2 teaspoons milk
Combine powder sugar and vanilla ingredients in a medium bowl and whisk until smooth.
